Fee money comes from a mandatory activities fee that is assessed to all UMass undergraduate students. Fee money is allocated either as an annual budget from Ways & Means Committee or as emergency funds from the Finance Committee. Fee account funds are more restricted than revenue funds because they are subject to SGA policies (as well as Massachusetts General Law). Your annual allocation of fee money is put into your fee account before the start of the fall semester. It is your responsibility to spend this money responsibly and for the specific purposes for which it is allocated. Unspent funds left in a fee account at the end of the fiscal year are returned to the SGA. Fee money is allocated for in certain budget categories.
Guidelines for using fee money:
- Fee money is paid by undergraduate UMass students, so it should be used primarily to benefit the undergraduate community primarily and the membership of your group secondarily.
- No purchases of t-shirts, gifts, awards, food, or donations to outside groups
- Use according to the purposes approved by the SGA in RSO budget request
- Fee money should be used to support the mission of your RSO as a whole, not just the interests of a few individual members
